hi Claude,

Currently this is available in syslog messages, which can be sent to any external syslog server or you can configure HiveManager to accept syslog messages from connected devices.

Is there a tutorial on setting up the Hive Manager to do so? I am a newbie to Aerohive and will be deploying my first network this weekend. But I need to be able to retrieve this data.

Welcome to the Hive :-). I suspect the HiveManager help likely has the information you need. Do you have an on-premises HiveManager or are you using HMOL? I am not sure the syslog feature is available in HMOL because of the amount of logs it would have to collect. If you are using HMOL, an app like Kiwi syslog might be a better choice. It will also keep the syslogs local since they are not encrypted and it isn't a best practice to send non-encrypted log traffic across your WAN link. Setting up syslog to a server is definitely covered in the help. It is context-based, so in the Network Policy, when you're in the management settings, click Help in the upper right and it will walk you through!!

We also make this information available within HiveManager via the Events -> Monitor tab; you'll see all information entered into the CWP, provided you've "flipped the switch", or told HM to do so. As Abby mentioned, the Help files are very useful and will show you where to go.

This is great. So how do you "flip the switch" to have the cwp registration events to appear?

Hi Claude! In my excitement about this feature and haste to answer you, I realized that this is currently in beta, and will be available on the production servers shortly. It's not currently available to you on the production servers. My apologies for the confusion!

Thanks. I am able to see some authentication info but not what I'm looking for. I need to capture the user registration information that is input by the user. I only solution I have found so far is to setup a syslog server for this data.

That is correct; today, you need to deploy a syslog server, as Abby mentioned. :)

Claude, the Aerohive help system, both within HiveManager, as well as from the website, is excellent. If you review the latest hardware reference guide, the full list of currently supported modems is available there. :)

Mario,
HiveManager does not show user registration data in the product currently. I think this is a great suggestion, We will consider adding this in a future release.

Ok...so where does all the registration information actually go?  Is it not collected anywhere in a database where this registration data and usage policy data can be monitored?

Ajit,

Sarah advised a year ago that this feature was in Beta.

Am I missing something? Is this feature going to be available or not?

What information can be extracted from the Syslog messages?

Thanks

Mario

I'm interested in the follow-up to this too. What's the point in self-registration if we can't easily audit the information?

This seems to answer the question: https://community.aerohive.com/aerohive/topics/captive-portal-self-registration
It explains how to enable the reporting of CWP registration data (note: Enterprise mode required; this doesn't seem to be possible if you're using Express) and then view it in Events.
However, I must say, this is suboptimal: surely this info could and should be presented on details pages of Active Clients.
