Voice vlan AND a trunk?? Can it be done!?

I'm wondering if you can send a voice vlan to an IP phone like the Voice & Data option in the switches, but have the Data side be a trunk.

We have a unique setup here where several of our PCs are sitting on a few vlans. These PCs are plugged into Cisco phones which are then plugged into Cisco switches. The Cisco switches are configured as trunks and also have the voice vlan configured.

The SR2024 works beautifully when the Voice & Data option is selected, but I only get 1 data vlan. Is there a way to set this up? I've tried setting up the port as a trunk and allowing the certain vlans we need. And I've tweaked several settings when configuring the Port Type. The result is the PC gets all the vlans it needs, but the phone never gets an IP address and just sits there searching.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure I understand your requirement but it sounds like what you would need is the ability to add more vlans to those allowed on the Voice+Data port, which is actually a trunk already.

We currently don't support that today, but would you mind trying on the cli something like "int 'int' switchport trunk allow vlan 'vlan'" for the other data vlans and let me know what happens?

Thanks,
Daniel.

Thanks Daniel! I am looking exactly for what you describe, adding more vlans to the Voice&Data configuration. I will give this a try and post the results here afterwards.

And success! It works great, I'm getting all the vlans I need and the phone is happy as a clam too. Now the next question is if I push a config out to the switch will my manual CLI commands get overridden? Thanks again!

Happy to hear that.

I'm not recommending to do this but, if you keep doing only Delta Config Uploads using HiveManager as the source of truth, they will stay.

Sounds good to me, it is a rare instance where this occurs for us. But it will help us when trying to convince the higher ups that we don't need Cisco at the access layer for our customers.
