Unable to upload config after migrating AP from Hivemanager6 to HivemanagerNG

I have followed the document to migrate AP from HiveManager6 to HiveManagerNG (http://docs.aerohive.com/330000/docs/guides/Aerohive_HiveManagerNG-Migration.pdf) but after it has been visible on HiveManagerNG I am unable to upload full config. The first error message which comes up is 'Default DTLS passphrase is in use. Push a complete configuration to update the passphrase' and then when I try full update I get 'Could not download configuration.'.

Could you point me to the right configuration so I can upload the config?

Thanks

Hi Dariusz,

Are the AP's factory reset? - I would try resetting the AP's if not done already.

What version of HiveOS are they running? - I would try an upgrade/downgrade to see if the behaviour changes.

Kind Regards,

Hi Gary,

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried to factory reset it but it always appear on the HiveMager6 list but never on HiveManagerNG. I have them running concurrently because I am planning to test HiveManagerNG first and build all policies, SSID, etc. When I am happy I want to migrate all of the APs across but I am far away from this point yet.

The AP which I tried to migrate AP120 and AP121, both running HiveOS 6.5r3a Honolulu.2530.

If I have to downgrade HiveOS on each AP this would be so painful that I would probably ditch the plan to migrate to HiveManagerNG which would be a shame.

I am a little unclear...

Are you removing the AP from the HM6 and adding/"Onboard Devices" to the HMNG account?

Are you blocking anything on your firewall which might prevent that AP joining HMNG?
If you monitor the "show capwap client" output on the command line, can you see the AP try to join HMNG?

I am sorry for the confusion.

The answer is yes, I have deleted the AP from HM6 (with option 'Reset device configurations to their default or bootstrap settings) and then hoping it will appear on HMNG as unconfigured device but it does not. It appears each time in HM6 instead.

Both AP and HMNG is on the same LAN so there is no firewall in between.

The second attempt I have done was to follow the migration guide which said, export APs device as file, change primary capwap server to be HMNG, upload config with 900sec delay, remove it from HM6 (with 'Keep existing device configurations' option). When I have done this I can see the AP connected to HMNG fine but I am unable to upload new configuration.

Right. I think I am getting somewhere now. I have configured Hive, DNS and NTP settings in HMNG and then reset AP121 to factory defaults. After reboot it appeared in HMNG which was a good start.

After that I changed hostname and tried to upload full config which failed. Then I tried to upload delta config and it was successful.

I will try the same with AP120 and see what happens.

AP120 is also accepting delta config uploads but every time I try full config it fails.

Not sure why this is but at least I can continue with my testing now.

Thanks

I have modified network policy with new SSID and  I am unable to upload even delta config now. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have rebooted AP but every time I try to upload delta or full config it fails.

Where is the log which would tell me why it failed the config upload? In HM6 it was under configuration -> devices -> device update results but I can't find it  on HMNG.

Thanks

Darek,

I am experiencing similar issue with (in my case) delta upload (only some of the APs are affected) Full upload is a workaround for me, but doing a reboot in production environment is not always an option.

I had few phone calls with Aerohive reps and they confirmed this seems to be an issue with HMNG as they managed to replicate it with their own kit.

Half of my APs are still on HM6, the other half is in NG and I will probably leave that way until it's fixed.

Hope this helps.

I had the same error (ap130). I uploaded an old firmware 6.5r3a, after this everything went well and upgraded again to the new golden release firmware.
