Tunnel Data Traffic via capwap tunnel like Cisco WLC local mode?

Hi,

is there any similar feature in aerohive APs / hivemanager similar to local mode on cisco APs combined with cisco wlc? On cisco wlan environments this feature creates 2 capwap tunnels between an AP and the wlan controller (1 for management / 1 for the user data). Routing, dhcp, etc. then happens at the wlc. You do not need to provide the user vlans at your AP (just at the wlc). All you need is one management link from the AP to the wlc.

Is there any chance to do this with aerohive?

Thanks!

Hi Jennelu,

1) Aerohive HiveManager is not a controller, therefore there is no option to tunnel user traffic to the HiveManager. The APs need VLANs trunked to their ethernet ports. Aerohive architecture doesn't have the concept of a controller.

2) If it is absolutely necessary to tunnel all the traffic to a specific destination you can setup an Aerohive VPN gateway and configure APs to tunnel all traffic to this VPN gateway using GRE tunnels (Static Identity-Based Tunnels). Screenshot below,
