SSID Tags/Specific SSID for APs

So, as an example of what I am looking for, you have the capability in Hive to assign VLAN Tags to specific APs. The APs can then broadcast the same SSID but on different networks, in short. So, is it possible to do something similar with SSIDs? What I mean is, would it be possible to have specific APs only broadcast specific SSIDs without having to create multiple network policies and assign these SSIDs much like the VLAN tag? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Very interesting idea Josh...let me see if I have made sense of it correctly. You are talking about defining which SSID's are broadcast from within a 'single' network policy using device tags as the variable?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. In my own experience I have created separate policies in areas where SSID requirements are 'vastly' different. However in some instances I have disabled SSID's manually on the device itself.

Hope this helps.

That's exactly right. It would be much easier and more intuitive in my opinion to have the ability to assign SSIDs using device tags, or something alike. Manually setting SSIDs or any other variable to our gear may not be the best idea, as our support team is not as experienced and could possibly push updates that overwrite our manual configs accidentally. Maybe in the future this will be a feature.

With luck a member of the Aerohive time will see this post and take note. Although the use of 'device tagging' has been removed in HiveManager NG so this may not be viable.

I have been asking this for years... not really officially, but by talking to different people at Aerohive. And each time I hear "Oh, that would be a great feature".

Actually, it's not even my idea, but from someone at Aerohive a few years ago, which made me assume that it should be just a question of time for this feature to come. I am still hoping :-)

Yes, device tags are not in NG (yet?), but if I remember correctly some sort of replacement concept is in development... when this comes, I will inject the "SSID distribution by device tag" idea again, for sure :-)

We are asking the same for a couple of years :-) We have even opened a feature request for that but still waiting !

It would be very useful to have this possibility to broadcast certain SSIDs only at certain places using same network profile everywhere.

No, device tags are still missing...I raised this as point earlier this year when I carried out some proof of concept testing for NG. But you are correct they have been 'replaced' with device classification, which works in a similar way to device tagging. It was one of a couple of reasons that kept me from migrating.

Thread resurrection - has there been any more development in this area?
