The number of devices that can be supported is largely determined by the demands placed on the network for service. 802.11ac's wider channels are used on a frame-by-frame basis, so they are used only for wide-channel-capable clients that have large amounts of data to send. By reducing the airtime used by devices with large demands for throughput, 802.11ac can increase the ability of the network to provide service. Aerohive's dynamic airtime scheduling feature is one way that we will improve throughput for devices that support wide channels.
