Moving Access Points to a new Online Hive Manager

Hi All

I have 4 Access Points in Sydney Australia which keep dropping Wifi connection, I also have 20ish Access Point in Europe.  The AP's in Australia keep raising an Alarm saying something like "The latency to the CAPWAP server is to high".

I found another article on HiveNation where someone was having the same problems as we are in Australia, where the wifi will just stop working and the only way to fix is to reboot the AP.  The suggestion from support was to move the HiveManager Online instance to Servers in Australia.

That solution will not work for me as I have 20 AP's in Europe that will be affected with the same problem.

So what I would like to do is have a second Online Hive Manager instance (Can be under a different account), located in Australia and will be the CAPWAP server for the 4 AP's in Australia and maybe Asia/Pacific if we expand into that market more.

I have spoken to my support company and they said you can not have 2 online hive instance under one account (That is why I said I don't mind having 2 accounts).

Is this possible?

Any help would be helpful

Regards

Richard

I'm not sure what your support company was referring to, but we can create multiple online HiveManager instances for you if you'd like. You would need a unique email to register for the new HiveManager, and you would need to work out your entitlement keys with sales so that you can support the correct number of devices in each HiveManager. If you have purchased support, please feel free to call Aerohive Technical Support and we can get that second HiveManager set up for you on the correct server.

Hi Sam

Thank you for your reply, one of my colleagues is creating a new email account for the new instance.  Our support contract expires tomorrow but I have a quote from our support company for a new support contract.  I have requested that they break this support contract down into 2 contracts, one for the devices in Europe and the second will be for the 4 AP's in Australia which can then be added straight to the new Instance.

Is there a way to copy the config from 1 instance to another instance or do I need to setup the config on the new instance from scratch?

Hi Richard,

If you are moving to the same platform (HiveManager Classic Online to HiveManager Classic Online for example), you can perform a backup of your HiveManager, and then import that backup file to your new HiveManager.

To do this, you will want to go to Home> Administration> HiveManager Operations> Back Up Database. You have two options here; we can either run a backup that only takes your Configuration objects (your network policies, SSID objects, local users, etc) or a full backup that includes your Configuration objects as well as any admin settings, reports, etc that you may have. Once you have this file, you will want to save it somewhere you can find it, and then go in to the new HiveManager> Home> Administration> HiveManager Operations> Restore Database. Once you load this backup file in to the new HiveManager, you should be good to go.
