Mesh AP loses connection until Portal AP rebooted ( P2P dot1q bridge link)

Hi all

Wonder if any of you might shed some light on an issue?

I have 2 AP 245X's on the latest software, one is a portal AP on the LAN, one is a MESH AP with Eth0 as a .1q bridge. (basic point to point config) Both AP's on a static address.

If i reboot the mesh AP, it will not re-join the hive, nor can i ping its static address. I can see it as a layer 2 neighbour via AMRP and can confirm the mesh is up. But it wont join the hive, and wont bridge to clients on the far side.

It's almost like the Portal AP is filtering traffic from the Mesh AP preventing it from joining the hive or sending traffic via the mesh.

As soon as a reboot the Portal AP, all connectivity is restored, which is annoying as if the Mesh AP reboots due to a power cut or config change etc, i have to manually reboot the portal....

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jamie,

You and I worked on this issue and I believe we have found a solution at least. Would you mind updating this thread on what you found as it may be useful for others.

Kind Regards,

Long story short.......

Disabling VTP pruning on the portal trunk seems to resolve the issues. Meshed ethernet bridged Aerohive links are unpredictable with VTP pruning messages.
