Is there a solution that uses a combination of proximity data and 'durational' data to create heat maps? #iBeaconWebinar

First of all, wonderful presentation on iBeacon's and BLE! I am new to the topic and am wondering how limiting the iBeacon's advertising only mode is. I ask because I am interested in a system that uses a combination of proximity data and 'durational' data to create heat maps and am concerned that without the Scanning mode capability the system will be unnecessarily complicated. Is there a combination of iBeacon and Aerohive hardware that can address my concern?

Jason,

You might be able to use beacons to gather the proximity information, but you would need to write your own app to report proximity information (and potentially any other information you want).  Depending on the type of heat map you're talking about, the Apple APIs may or may not support getting that data, so you'd need to pull it out of the Aerohive infrastructure (if it is something like client count).
