Is a HiveManager CLI backup compatible across versions?

I have a Virtual Appliance on-premise HiveManager that refuses to allow me to upgrade to a later release or to create a backup of the config because it claims it is out of disk space.  (~20GB required for backup but only ~17GB free).

This VA is an old 32-bit VA that has been through many upgrades, I'd like to move off of it anyway. This seems like an opportune time to get a backup and restore that into a new 64-bit VA... except I can't get a backup from the GUI.

The CLI will let me dump both "config only" (~850MB) and "full" (~1.4GB) backups to an FTP server, and I've taken both of those... but I'm not sure if they will restore correctly into a newer release of HiveManager?  We are currently running 6.6r3 and I would like to get up to 6.8r[current].

Alternatively, I suppose I can download the "old release" OVA for 6.6r3 64-bit and restore into that, which should work since it's the same release (I hope?) and then upgrade that new VA afterwards... but I was trying to do this in fewer steps if possible.

I have a ticket open with support, but they have been not very helpful so far, was hoping maybe someone in the community knows.

Try removing your old HiveOS Images as a way to save space on the backup. That might help.

Have you changed your System Log and Audit Log Expiration values? If you haven't, drop these down to 1 Day (which is the minimum). And then clear the logs. This along with Jonathan's recommendation to remove HiveOS images should help to free up some space.

A "config only" backup can be restored to the same or newer HM version.
