How to downgrade an AP121 from 6.0r2a to 5.1r5?

We used an AP121 on HiveOS 6.0r2 for a demo, and now need to use it in a different setup with HM on 5.1r5.

I tried with our local HM and also directly via the AP's web UI, but without success:

"The HiveOS image is incorrect. Make sure that the image you are attempting to load is appropriate for the HiveAP platform and the difference with the image saved in HiveAP."

Image used: AP121-141-5.1r5.img.S

And yes, the AP in question is definitely an AP121 (S/N 12113010800690).

Is there a special trick to do that?

Apparently the AP downgraded anyway - it just needed a reboot to apply the 5.1r5 image.

Weird, no?

There is a reporting issue for certain Aerohive devices running 6.0r2a, where the device would not tell HiveManager that the upgrade or downgrade completed successfully. In reality, the firmware load does complete, and as you found, you just need to manually reboot the device to activate the new version.

The issue is now resolved, so if you go back to 6.0 code, make sure to load 6.0r2b.
