How to autogenerate and email a custom report

I'm having a heck of a time here. We recently had a vendor install aerohive wifi access points. Please note: I'm just a librarian! I've been able to set up a customized report but I cannot figure out how to configure it to automatically generate the report and email me the results. It can't be that difficult....but I've been unable to find the answer on the help boards (though they were helpful in setting up the custom report). When I asked our vendor, they referred me to the thread that helped me set up the custom report . I'm running Enterprise 6.8r7a - in case that's important.  Help!

Let me first register my conviction that "just a librarian" seems a contradiction in terms.

Until you get a reply from someone more knowledgeable, have you configured the SMTP server settings in Home > Administration > HiveManger services?

Good luck getting the issue resolved!

LOL - thanks for saying that.  I'm a wee bit out of my element when it comes to technology though; I know more than the average person, but merely enough to be dangerous ;)

I *did* just configured the SMTP server settings in HiveManager Services.  When I tried to send a test message, I rec'd an error instead:

Unable to send the test message.
Error message: 452 4.2.1 mail v34HnY47031864 from 52.206.24.136 temporary greylist embargoed

So....now I'm running that down with our ISP/email provider.  They have things locked pretty tightly so I'm guessing the email server may be seeing this as spam or something more nefarious. Hopefully that will be resolved shortly.

In the meantime, I did not see anywhere in the Customized Report field where I could configure a report to automatically run.  Right now, I have to log in every day and physically run this report in order to get the data I need; that's getting old fast and I'm sure I'm missing a checkbox or something.

It appears your mail server is not onsite. Are you using HMOL or an on-premise device? If your hive manager is onsite and you mail server is not, I wonder if a firewall might be blocking SMTP traffic. I would also imagine being a librarian is no small task. Shirley Jones made it look far to easy in The Music Man!

Dear BJ,

Shirley Jones is my hero.  Yes - I do wish it was that easy some days ;)

I finally heard back from our ISP/email provider.  I had neglected to check the box for authentication and to fill in my username and pwd.  That's done now and I tried a test message and it worked.

Now the only thing I need to figure out is how to get a custom report to automatically generate - and then hope it will actually show up in my email.

Anyone on the autogenerate?  Bueller?

When you click the Reports tab, then click your report and click Continue 3 times do you not get a Scheduling Options box?

No.  I click on the "Reports" tab - and then "Customized Reports" and then the name of my actual report (screenshot).  There is no button/link to Continue anywhere and I never see a Scheduling Options box.  It seems my only options are to "Save," "Run Now," "Export," or "Cancel."  So what I've had to to do is physically log in to this page every morning and Run Now.  There *has* to be a way to schedule customized reports and to email the results.  There are too many other bells and whistles for this not to be an option.  Am I not seeing the forest for the trees?

Hmmm. That's different from what I see.  I've pasted a couple screen shots below. They're in the wrong order, though - the one with the Continue button at the top right is what I see after clicking the report name in the first screenshot.

I'm using HMOL 6.r7a.

Hmm.  Mine does not appear under Admin-Defined Reports so that might be why it looks different; I didn't realize that I had to create the report under "Admin-Defined." I started from scratch - going that route - and I do see what you described (being able to select when/how often a report was run and having it emailed).

It seems "Unique Wifi Clients by Location" gives me what I need when I hover my mouse over the resulting graph.  I'll wait to see what the report looks like when it's emailed (and hopefully it will go through aok).

Thank you SO MUCH for your help, Steve.  I greatly appreciate it.
