How many users can connect to APs or SSIDs?

Hello, I just want to be sure of this, I understand that each SSID can have a maximum of 100 users per radio, so if I have an SSID called "AeroSSID" I can have a maximum of 200 clients (100 in 2.4 GHz and 100 in 5 Ghz), am I right?

If I have, let's say, 300 clients in my company and I need everyone connect to the same SSID, there's no way this could be possible?

And, is there a maximum number of clients that can connect to an AP? using a single or multiple SSIDs

There is no limit on the number of clients per SSID. But for 300 clients you need more than 1 access point.

I would recommend you to contact a professional company for the design and the Site Survey

A few corrections, Each SSID (wifi0.x or wifi1.x) has a limit of 100 clients because each RADIO has a limit of 100 clients. Note that this number will be increasing in future HiveOS releases for some platforms. Although you can limit the # of clients on a per SSID basis the RADIO limit will be the max.

The client limit on the RADIO (wifi0 or wifi1) is the more significant limit. 

As Jonas stated for 300 clients you will want to probably use more than 1 AP for several reasons. Even if you could connect 300 clients to a single Access Point (or 150 per RADIO), the fact that IEEE 802.11 is a shared medium and the total capacity of a RADIO is shared amongst all of its connected devices. So if you have 150 clients per radio each client would get 1/150th of the available airtime. And also keep in mind that what a client device can achieve within that 1/150th of airtime is dependent on wireless capabilities of the client (e.g. an MacBook Pro will have more throughput than 

My recommendation is when someone says they want 300 clients connected, the next question should be what its he bandwidth/throughput requirement for those 300 clients. Without knowing that there it is impossible to develop a proper design.

I forgot to say this, 300 clients in the same SSID and the maximum quantity of clients in a single AP are two different scenarios.

The first scenario is: 300 clients in the same SSID with multiple APs.
The second scenario is: how many users could be connected to the same AP.

For the first scenario, I still don't understand some points... each SSID can have 2 radios, each radio have a configurable limit up to 100 clients, so if I configure the maximum limit of clients in each radio, there are a maximum of 200 clients in one SSID, is this right?

For the second scenario, as you and Jonas commented, I understand that there's no limit in the quantity of clients that can connect to a single AP, but the main problem is throughput, so if that's the only problem I'm ok with that.

The company where I want to implement these devices have around 300 clients, and they are supposed to use the same SSID, but, as I see, that cannot be possible because of the limit of clients per SSID/Radio... please correct me if I'm wrong with this

For the first scenario, yes each SSID can be dual band meaning it works on both frequency bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) at the same time. If you configure a single SSID on a single AP with 100 clients per SSID and 100 clients per Radio one could associate 200 clients to that single SSID. If you had a single SSID across two dual radio access points (Total of 4 radios) then you would be able to have 400 clients associated (200 per Access Point or 100 per Radio). Here you could also enable Load Balancing in Radio profile to help distribute the load amongst all radios if access points are within RF range of each other.

For the second scenario, I will state that there is a limit to the quantity of clients that can connect to a single AP, right now with a dual radio AP you will be limited to 200 with that number increasing on some platforms in the future HiveOS versions, but you are correct about the throughput constraints. 

Note the limit of # of clients per SSID is a per radio designation. So if you have two Access Points each can handle 100 per SSID per Radio (total of 400 clients). This might be where the confusion lies. It is not 100 per SSID across a WLAN system (multiple APs). If you had 3 radios deployed (1.5 access points) you would be able to support 300 devices (not taking throughput requirements in consideration).

While knowing how many stations (clients) are connected to a single radio is important it is commonly more important to know the airtime utilisation for each radio’s channel.  If you have ten stations connected but just web surfing the airtime utilisation is considerably less than when ten stations are connected and watching uncompressed HD video.

I've been an Aerohive customer for 5 years. It's been my experience the 100 client per SSID is valid. Case in point. Last year I created an SSID for each grade level 7-12 at our school for PPSK and it worked great. Was told by someone I have too many SSID's and should condense them. Okay, I created one SSID for 7th -12th with PPSK and students could not connect at all times (random) no matter where they were in the building (36 AP250's for 600 kids). Went back to the individual grade SSID's and all is fine. Not even Aerohive agrees with me but that is my experience.
