Apps register to monitor beacon regions.
Beacon regions can be specified at multiple levels including
  • Organizational level using the UUID value
  • Group level using the Major value
  • Beacon level using the Minor value
You can create a beacon region with just the UUID value and leave the Major and Minor values undefined and your app will recognize any beacon with that UUID and any Major or Minor value.

Since the Major value is a 16-bit number (0-65535) and the Minor value is a 16-bit number (0-65535), the combination of the Major and Minor values means that you can have 2^32 beacons.

2^32 = 4,294,967,296

I read that an app monitor 20 regions. How would to relate that to a store model?
Country could be the region and UUID?
Major being the state or city?
Minor being location in the store?

In a store model, the UUID would be the brand; major number is the store number, and the minor number is a department or display within the store.  The major and minor numbers are 2-byte values, and support up to 65,535 divisions.  That's enough for almost any single chain I can think of.  (The fast food store with the highest number of locations has a little less than 43,000 stores right now.)
