How do you setup multiple sites to use the same SSID?

I am relatively new to using Aerohive. We have 2 locations, currently it is configured location A has SSIDs Corp-NB and Guest-NB and location B has Corp-CR and Guest-CR. Also each SSID has a different VLAN assigned to it. All are using the same network policy. Both guests are using captive portal. Both corps are using WPA2. Is there a way to combine the 2 corps into one SSID but with the 2 current VLANs? And the same for the 2 guests.

Absolutely!

Take a look at the following VLAN object:

  • Users connected to an AP with Device Tag "Sydney" will be put into VLAN 111
  • Users connected to an AP which name starts with AUS- will be put into VLAN 222
  • Users connected to an AP that is assigned to the Topology node (= Map) Lausanne will be put into VLAN 333
  • All other users will be put into VLAN 999
So in your case you want to have 2 SSIDs, Corp and Guest. Each with one user profile each, and each user profile referencing one VLAN object each - as you have now, but with the difference that each VLAN object has VLAN overwrite definitions as show in the screenshot above.

Hope this helps...

Is there a guide or whitepaper that explains this?

Although there isn’t a stand-alone step-by-step guide about setting this up, the concept of classifying VLANs by map, device tag, and device name so that you can assign different VLANs to different sites in the same network policy is explained in the Help. This might be a useful reference: http://www.aerohive.com/330000/docs/help/english/6.2r1/hm/full/help.htm#config/com/vlan.htm.

I went through the first level of instructor-led training. It was brought up but never covered or answered.

John,

Indeed, a more detailed configuration example is part of the ACWP training material (2nd level).

If you send me an email to carsten.buchenau@polarix.ch, I'll send you back that part of the course material.
