We are pleased and proud to announce that HiveOS 6.5r5 is now (September 8th, 2016)available for HiveManager On-premises and HiveManager Online(HMOL) customers.  HiveManager 6.8r4 is being released at the same time.  HiveManager On-premises and HMOL customers should upgrade to version 6.8r4 of the management platform, first, before upgrading their HiveOS devices.  HiveManager NG support for this version of HiveOS will come with HiveManager NG version 11.16.1.0 in the latter half of October 2016.

HiveOS6.5r5 images are available for AP110, AP120, AP121, AP130, AP141, AP170, AP230,AP320, AP330, AP340, AP350, AP370, AP390, BR100, BR200, BR200-WP, BR200-LTE-VZ,SR2024P, SR2124P, SR2148P, VPN Gateway Appliance, and VPN Gateway Virtual Appliance.

This is Aerohive’s long-lived stable release branch of HiveOS, sometimes referred to in the industry as a “golden” release or branch of software.  In this release, we’ve fixed stability, performance and customer issues.  Adopters of this release branch will not have to worry about the introduction of new features introducing instability in their networks.

For customers who have been waiting for this to get certain specific HiveOS bug-fixes, on-demand upgrades are available now for HMOL customers, using their normal process of contacting Technical Support. HiveManager On-premises customers can retrieve HiveManager version 6.8r4 from the Aerohive support portal.  Self-upgrades, aka, “flying the bee”, will be enabled in a few weeks.

For details about the changes in these two releases, please consult their respective release notes. The release notes for these are at the followingURLs:

May I know what is the best practice/recommendation for HiveOS. Should we upgrade to golden release (e.g. 6.5r5) or the latest release (e.g. AP230 6.8r1)? Appreciate your reply on this.

Angelo,
The general guidance is to use the golden release if it suits your needs, for the best long-term stability. Use feature releases (such as 6.8) or hardware-introduction releases (such as 7.0 for AP250 and AP245X) when you need the features present in that software or that hardware.

Now of course I would not have released HiveOS 6.8r1 if I didn't feel that it was of commercial quality, but every time we (or any company) introduces new features to large mature code-bases then we run the risk of unintended side-effects or bugs.

Hi Team, we update HMOL to this version and now all the hives are shown as disconnected.  Any ideas how to reconnect them?  In the past we saw then auto reconnect.

Derek, few details in your description. I think you have to troubleshoot a little bit more...once done (and if no luck), I suggest you to rise a support ticket and analyse what happened

Hi Roberto, what sort of troubleshooting do you suggest?  I was going to start looking at the capwap settings and take it from there.

Well I knew the feature was coming back by at least 6.8r5 because of the support ticket I had. It was a pleasant surprise when I upgraded to 6.8r4 and it was back. I was going to wait for 6.8r5, but I was on 6.8r2 and needed full support for AP250s and AP245Xs so had to upgrade to 6.8r4.

I work for a school district, and we have an "On Premises" Hive solution that is about 1.5 years old. I was being plagued by Major alarms from 5-7 AP230s, every 2 hours, saying: HiveAP {Host Name} was unable to join the Active Directory domain.  I was running Hive Manager 6.5r1  and HiveOS 6.4r1. I upgraded our Hive and APs to their respective "Golden" versions and have not had the alarm rise since (knock on wood).
