One of our customers tried to update his hivemanager from version 5.1r5a to 6.1r2a.
He uses a 32bit vm with 3GB ram and 2 CPU sockets.
When the update is finished he gets an successful completed message, but after a reboot the version stays the same.
Any ideas ?

regards,
Hannes

Page 2 of the 6.1r2a Release Notes is worded oddly (in my opinion), as it seems to imply that you'll need to go to 6.1r1 first then to 6.1r2a. At least that's my interpretation of it. I haven't attempted it myself so I cant say for sure if that's the proper procedure or not.

Might can try it and see if they have better results. Make sure they're backing everything up first!

Hi,

it may be worth checking the upgrade log to see if this sheds any light on the situation, this can be found on the Home menu:

Hi, Brian. I looked at page 2 in the 6.1r2a release notes but couldn’t find the part you were referring to. Could it be on a different page? Please feel free to post a screen capture if you'd like.

The pages that talk about upgrading in the 6.1r2a release notes (the upgrade instructions start on p. 7) say that Aerohive supports upgrades to all 6.1 HiveManager and HiveOS releases from 5.1r2 or later, and that if you’re running anything earlier than that to upgrade first to 5.1r2 and then from there to a 6.1 release.

As I said, it doesnt implicitly say to go to 6.1r1 first, but the way the chart looks, it kind of eludes to it, to me at least...

I agree that that is misleading and would be a typo we should correct. But I can't find that in the 6.1r2 and 6.1r2a release notes that are posted online. They say "Upgrade to HiveManager 6.1r2", not "6.1r1" as your screen capture clearly shows:

6.1r2: http://www.aerohive.com/330000/docs/h...

6.1r2a: http://www.aerohive.com/330000/docs/h...

Sorry to trouble you, but I'd like to get it fixed wherever it is.

I see that on the Release notes I just grabbed from the support site as well. As the same graphic is on page 7 and is as you stated...

I should pay more attention... At the very top of the PDF I was referring to, "Aerohive Beta Test Release Notes".

Apologizes for the confusion!

And back to the original issue, Is the customer using the update feature from within the appliance (the little blinking bee)? Or are they downloading the 32 bit VA software from the support site?

I have had issues with the HiveManager VM upgrade timing out when using the online upgrade option. For this reason I always download the latest HiveManager firmware from the Aerohive Support site and upgrade the HiveManager VM from a local drive.

Thanks for the replies, but nothing has worked so far.
The reseller tried to use the update feature within the appliance as well as to download the file and install it from his local drive, so far no luck.
He also says that his upgrade logs are empty.
