Hide SSID with AeroHive Connect

Hi Folks,

I bought my first AP130 devices and now try to rebuild an existing WiFi. I only have one problem. The SSID of the existing WiFi is hidden but I can't configure the new SSID to not broadcast the SSID.

When I edit the SSID settings in the Hive Manager (I am using HM Connect) I have two checkboxes near "Broadcast SSID using" for activating broadcast on bot WiFi Interfaces. This setting has no asterisk for a mandatory Setting but when I uncheck both Interfaces I get an error message like "You must specify the broadcast SSID to use."

So now the question is how to hide a WiFi SSID? Please no answers like "do you know it's more secure" or so.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

The broadcast option you refer to on the Wi-Fi interface relates to the radio servicing that specific SSID so clients can connect to it. For example, you may want to make an SSID only available on certain APs or certain radios. It does not relate to the broadcasting of beacons which make the SSID 'visible' to clients.

I'm afraid this feature is exclusive to HiveManager Select. The feature is behind Optional Settings under SSID configuration. See below:

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Nathaniel

Hi Nathaniel,

thank you so much for the fast reply.

I absolutely understand your explanation. - I misinterpreted the setting for broadcasting the SSID.

Have a nice day ahead.

Best regards,
Bernd
