I want to know if you can go from an OnPrem of HiveManager to HiveManager NG OnPrem. Is it possible to go directly on do you have to back up the current HiveManager then install NG then restore the configuration?

Hello - you cannot restore HM 6 configuration directly. There's a migration document:

http://www.aerohive.com/330000/docs/guides/Aerohive_HiveManagerNG-Migration.pdf

Please start following this document from section 2. You can migrate maps, reuse HM 6 entitlement keys and export Aerohive devices. You have to rebuild your network policies.

Hi Karthik,

If I understand correctly the question is how to upgrade/migrate from HiveManager On Premise (NOT Online) to NG On Premise. The document you referring to says migrating from Online version to On Premise.

I have the same question as I want to upgrade from HiveManager 6.6r3 (32-bit version) to HiveManager NG.

Is this possible or do I need to migrate all of my config and devices across from 6.6r3 to NG?

Thanks,
Dariusz

I think it is also worth mentioning that HM-NG is still in rolling development. I've found already that certain configuration options and features are not present in the current revision of NG software.

I concur with Luke's assessment. I'm managing an on-prem HM 6 for the company I work for, and a HMOL NG for a non-profit. There is a bit of a learning curve and some features do not appear to be present...yet. I do, however, like the layout and flow of NG, but I'm not ready to migrate the corporate WLAN management just yet.

Best,
BJ

Thanks for this - I'm currently in the same boat debating on moving from 6.X on prem to NG.

Luke, the main reason we're looking to go to NG is moving IDManager on prem verse the current cloud version as well as the historical troubleshooting/etc for help desk usage. I'm just now in the initial phases of researching the move to NG. So far the lack of migration tools from 6.x to NG is disappointing. I'm in the midst of making a rather large "to-do" list of manual steps to test a select handful of devices on NG to determine how and when we will migrate production.

Yes, the integration of ID Manager (now called Guest Manager in NG) was one of features that appealed to us, along with the new architecture on which NG is built, this allows for a greater level of reporting...unfortunately it would appear that certain features such as classification tags have been left out at this stage. The reporting while more refined is not as granular as it once was which is disappointing.
