Recognizing the need for choice in deployment options, Aerohive is offering two deployment options forHiveManager NG: public cloud and on-premises. For customers who seek complete control and ownership of the management of their wireless networks or where security policies disallow cloud apps, there is now an on-premises version of our next-generation network management system, called HiveManager NG Virtual Appliance (VA). Same great product, but now more flexible thanks to this alternative to the existing cloud version of HiveManager NG.

HiveManager NG VA leverages VMware’s virtual machine configuration and management capabilities. Using vCenter, IT administrators can quickly configure the IP address (static or DHCP) of NG VA. There is no need to secure root access – thereby enhancing security – and use command line interfaces to configure the virtual appliance. VMware snapshots can be used to preserve the disk file system and system memory of HiveManager NG VA. This is especially useful during an upgrade as snapshots can be used to backup VA’s current state. VA can be restored to this state in case there are problems with upgrades. High availability for VA can be achieved using VMware vSphere product. All these capabilities eliminate complexity and cumbersome procedures, contributing to the central goal of HiveManager NG: enabling IT to easily monitor and quickly troubleshoot WLAN issues with their network.

There is no difference in the feature set between the public cloud version of HiveManager NG and HiveManager NG VA. Key features of HiveManager NG include:

  • Guided workflows: Streamlined device and network configuration with task-based policy workflows enable configuration of a mobility network from sign-up to deployment within 15 minutes.
  • Powerful & intuitive dashboards: Dashboards with contextual filters and time range slider provide current and historical view, insights into applications, trend of client count, device data usage, and ability to drilldown to 360 degree views of network policy, single device, application, client and user.
  • Single pane of glass to monitor entire network: Centralized network management with unified policy and monitoring for access points and switches.
  • Help-desk optimized troubleshooting interface enables troubleshooting common client connectivity and authentication issues in real-time, provides problem summary and suggested remedy, reduces problem escalation, and provides better service experience to end users.

This view is echoed by an industry analyst: "By offering an on-premises version of HiveManager NG in addition to the cloud-based version, Aerohive gives customers a choice in deployment models that best fit their needs,” said Matthias Machowinski, research director, IHS.
