does Aerohive support iBeacons. If not, is there a plan for getting there?

Aerohive has partnerships with Apple. We have had support for location services for a while. It would not be unreasonable to assume that we are doing something related to iBeacons, but I can not confirm nor deny our investments strategies or timeframes for possible products.

Just read Matthew's new book
Building Proximity Applications with iBeacon

Matthew makes a distinction between location and proximity.

I suspect that the AppleTV with bluetooth enabled for clients to find airplay devices is using iBeacons.

After reading the book it almost seems logical that the next evolutionary step would be that an AP could potentially learn the proximity of devices using iBeacons and then advertise those devices and services to associated STA.

Very interesting indeed.
