As long as you know the UUID you can discover any beacon that is advertising in proper iBeacon format.

Gimble beacons, by default, use a proprietary format, that is not supported by the Locate app, but can be reconfigured to support iBeacon instead of their proprietary format.

There are many tools for detecting standard iBeacons.  I have used the Radius app, as well as several others, but the Radius app is a little more polished than many of the other free services.  (And on Android, it detects everything, even if you don't know what numbers to look for!)

I thought about having an appendix in the iBeacon book that listed tools, but there were so many free tools that I didn't want to write an appendix with all of them!
