Does anyone ever use the Applications Dashboard?

Our bandwidth shaper and firewall show wildly different numbers for usage as compared to the Applications Dashboard in hive manager.

Does anyone use these numbers regularly and can you explain where they are retrieved?

Case in point: Our firewall says we've done approximately 27GB of Netflix in the past 24 hours, yet the widget "Top 10 Applications by Uage - Summary" in hive manager claims we've done 1012GB of Netflix in the same time period.

How is this helpful?

i have some questions about that as well.  I have flagged a couple of devices that the App. Dash. showed as having attempted to access blocked applications (like Facebook and Myspace).  When I go to our network firewall, it does not show any traffic from those devices to those destinations,  To be honest, I have more trust in our Fortigate, than the App. Dash.

If an AP identifies and blocks access to Facebook et al., we wouldn't necessarily expect it to appear in the logs for a firewall. If you're using the dash for information only, I would expect things to be logged similarly though...

We also have a Fortigate firewall and we've had some good luck with it, so far. Another case in point: The hive manager showed a student's MAC address to have downloaded 99.41GB in one day. However, our firewall claimed he had done closer to 8GB.

We have a rate limit that goes into effect at 75GB inside of a week so it'd be next to impossible to ever reach 100GB in the same day.

The AP will account internal traffic as well. Is it possible that this is the cause for the discrepancy?

I can't fathom internal traffic making up the difference, especially since it's Netflix, Youtube, etc., that are so radically different.

It would be unusual although it's certainly possible. The important point is that you'd need actual evidence of an AP not accounting traffic for a STA correctly in a controlled condition/test.
