Hi AB,

Can you please confirm which web browser(s) you have tested? Also, what is the hardware model of your APs and what version of HiveManager and HiveOS are you running? If you are not running HiveManager 6.1r6a and HiveOS 6.1r6 I would recommend upgrading as this release contains all of the available updates and bug fixes.

In testing a different CWP question the other day, I did confirm that at least on Windows 8.1 and the Chrome web browser, the default CWP did open a new tab automatically. Are you using the default CWP or customized HTML? I just tested this behavior specifically on MacOS 10.9.4 and Windows 8.1 and on both laptops the web browser opened and redirected to the CWP even if it was closed. This was tested on an AP330 running HiveOS 6.1r6.

Hope this helps

Thanks AB, I'll be interested to hear your results as I also tested my AP230 at home this morning on HiveOS 6.1r6 and I saw the same successes I mentioned on the AP330 running the same version.

I did realize after I first posted that you had mentioned getting a 1.1.x.x IP address, so I went in changed the default "Use external DHCP and DNS servers on the network" to "Use internal DHCP and DNS servers on the Aerohive device". After making this config change I tested again on both MacOS 10.9.4 and Windows 8.1, both with the web browser opened and closed, and saw the same success as with external DHCP and DNS.

Opening an old question here. Did anyone manage to figure this out? Is there a setting we need to activate (especially if it is a 3rd party CWP landing page).

Thanks!

I explained yesterday how CWPs work in this regard; an automatic prompt being as a result of out-of-band detection in clients and the need to keep HiveOS updated to get any internal changes that are made to best solicit this behaviour ;-)

Yes I did a bit more research, so on apple devices, it tries to connect to http://apple.com/hotspot-detection or something similar and if it cannot connect, it prompts the user to sign in with CWP.

This doesn't seem to be the case with the third party CWP. We definitely havne't allowed Apple.com as an exception in the walled Garden.

We will try updating the Hive Manager to see if we get this to work!

Thanks for your help Nick!

My suggestion at this point would be to get packet captures and review them to see what's going on, piecing together why it prompts in one case but not the other.

Unfortunately no progress on this :(

On the packet capture, it show that the hotspot-detect returns as successful, but
When I log into http://captive.apple.com/hotspot-detect.html via Chrome, it redirects to the CWP.

However, there is no automated popup that appears.
What could be the problem?
