Clients unable to connect

I'm wondering if anyone could shed some light on a very hit and miss issue me and my users are experiencing.

We are running Aerohive AP 250's on Hive OS 8.2r1 & 121's on 6.5r8a  on the NG platform and we keep having problems with clients connecting to the AP's using PPSK's. The same PPSK will work on the same AP, same VLAN, same site, same usergroup, same everything only difference is the device. 

is there any known issues with certain Hive OS's not accepting connections from certain versions of iOS / Android firmware's?

Example iOS that works: 11.1.11 [Apple iPad Air 2]
Exampe Android Firmware not working: 7.0 [Samsung Galaxy S8+]

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
