Captive webportal with ppsk authentication

It would we a great feature if you could create a captive webportal and use a ppsk for authentication (instead of Radius). In combination with the api's of Aerohive it would be very interesting to create a guest portal.

I think with Ruckus this is possible with their Dynamic psk. (And come on, Aerohive is a much better product so please add this feature :-D)

Hi Jonas,

I am not following. How could/would the PSK 'authenticate' to a CWP?

Surely you would just use a user policy acceptance CWP if you wanted an interstitial where a PPSK is used?

Hi Nick,

If you use a ppsk for time based access to a guest manager the client need to forget or remove the network the next time he comes because the ppsk is expired. This isn't user friendly.

It would be better if the guest is redirected to a captive portal so the guest can enter a password and surf. I already created a guest system with an external radius but this has some disadvantages. You need to place a radius server at the location.

Wouldn't it be great if you could create a cloud based solution for this based on Aerohive api's and ppsk?

See attachment from ruckus guest access. It isn't working with radius so I think it is working with the dynamic psk?

Hi Jonas,

I do not see how this can have anything to do with a DPSK/PPSK? It just looks like a CWP operating via whatever other means it does.

Are you saying that if the PPSK has expired, we should still allow it to be used (so retain it), but then redirect to a CWP because we have market it as expired? That wouldn't seem sensible or scalable to me.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Okay forget the ppsk :-D.  I just want to achieve the following. (it doesn't matter if it's with a ppsk or another password system):

1) That I or an employee can create a guest ticket with a Password (time-based: for example for 1 day) with a programma that use the Aerohive api's
2) The user can connect to an open ssid and gets a captive portal where he needs to enter a password. If he enters the password he can get online for 1 day
3) next time the visitor comes again he gets a new guest ticket. Connects with the ssid and get the CWP. After he enter the password he is online.

I thought the Ruckus cwp system was working with the dpsk but I can be wrong. It isn't working with Radius, that's for sure.

Some printscreens from my guest system with an external Radius. But to get this system in the cloud I need something as described above. With this system you can create a cwp with the look and feel of the company, you can adjust the content of the printable guestpass/sms/email, ....

Hello,

That would be a great feature, I'm also working with PPSK and a policy acceptance page for our guests, but indeed the guests need to remove their previous wifi profiles before submitting a new key, that's very annoying..

I also would like to setup an open Guest SSID and a login page, so they can submit pregenerated ppsk credentials.

Is there a solution for that?

Thanks in advance,
