BYOD to Curriculum Bonjour Gateway

Hi,

I have setup the Bonjour gateway service on my network, hopefully to get iPads etc on the BYOD vlan to talk to select services on the Curriculum VLAN.

I've read lots of documentation, but am now confused. Does my BDD access point need an IP on the BYOD network to advertise to devices on that network? I can see a list of services it can detect, and I have allowed a couple of shared services (Airplay and RAOP), but running "show bonjour-gateway status" only gives back on locally attached VLAN.

sh bonjour-gateway status
Note: bonjour client only learning/registering aerohive special services
Running as bonjour gateway
Bonjour Gateway Status:Enabled
Realm Name: Middle Lane_Clifton:A_Community_Arts_School
Device priority: 10
My BDD: 10.229.27.200
Local mgt0: IP(10.229.27.200/22), VLAN(1) MAC(08ea:4424:9c80)
Total 1 Local Attached VLANs: 1
Total Services: 565; Total Self-Services: 0; Published Times: 0
Total 0 Remote BDDs:

Bonjour VLAN range: 1

I've tried browsing the BYOD VLAN (id 99), and am not seeing any published services on the curriculum network.

I'm a bit confused, any help greatfully appreciated!

Thanks,
Tim.

Hi Tim

Your BDD access point needs to be connected to a trunk port which is carrying all the VLANs running bonjour services that you want to advertise out, it also needs to have a DHCP sever available on each of those subnets so it can assign a virtual bgd.x interface which it uses to send/receive the services across the VLANs.

Hi Chris,

The network port has both VLANs assigned, but the AP has a statically assigned IP. Should I change that to DHCP?

A VLAN probe works on both VLANs (1 and 99). I'm not seeing any bgd.x interfaces.

I feel I am missing something obvious, but I haven't got there yet!

Hi Tim

It shouldn't matter whether you have a static or DHCP address assigned to mgt0 interface, as long as it can reach a DHCP server on VLAN 1 and 99 it should be good. Can you upload a screenshot of VLAN probe to these and a couple of screenshots showing your bonjour configuration in the network policy?

Also what HiveOS version are you running and what does 'show int' show from the AP CLI?

Spotted my obvious mistake!

My Bonjour policy was only set to scan my curriculum VLAN, not the BYOD one as well. I've got my Bdd0.1 interface up now after adding it in.

I'm seeing my device now via Bonjour, although I can't use AirPlay to it, but that's another issue.

Thanks for your help.
