BRs as backup routers

I have seen conversations and comments regarding this concept, but felt it could be important to put it on the radar as a feature request. The BRs perform well as designed and I'd like to see some increased functionality from the product line:
• GRE tunneling
• Dynamic routing (OSPF and/or BGP)
• VRRP support order to act as a backup for larger core routers in the event of WAN, or even complete core router outages.

Scenario One:
Branch WAN connection on core router fails, a tracking mechanism on core router promotes a floating static route to BR/AP which has connectivity to private mpls cloud via usb modem. Routing is performed over GRE tunnel to multipoint GRE endpoint (another core router) across WAN.

Scenario Two:
Branch core router fails, VRRP tracking mechanism promotes BR/AP as core router, routing is performed as in scenario one.

Perhaps APs with usb modem support could also offer these features.

Thanks for you consideration, keep up the great work!

I'd be concerned that the APs or BRs wouldn't have the muscle to successfully act as a core-level router.
