Application-based rate limiting

I just had a question from a client, who asked if it is possible to rate limit a particular app over the wireless.

My thoughts would be that he would have to use a QoS Classifier Map to classify the App into a particular QoS queue. Then use the Rate Control on the User profile to limit that queue.

Are my thoughts correct or is there a better way of doing it?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,

You are correct in your assumption that you could define a Classifier Map to place the desired applications into a particular queue and then rate control that queue. However, it should be noted that no limiting is applied until contention for the medium exists. This means that if only one user is on the network, he/she will get all the bandwidth.

More information on configuring Rate Control and Queuing can be found in this post.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that.

I didn't think about the lack of contention.
