API access to IDManager for temporary accounts

Do you think that Aerohive should provide an API to IDManager so that shop registers can be used to request a Guest Password for Wireless Access. eg a customer goes into a coffee shop and spends over £5.00 ($5.00) and on the receipt their is a PPSK which can be used to get free wireless access for an hour.
Similarly if a guest registers at a hotel, the registeration process provides a guest key for the duration of their stay?

Russell,

This is a great idea! Today, ID Manager requires that accounts are created by the end user, but there is no reason why we can't expose an API to enable another program (like a cash register) to create them.

We have discussed this idea in a generic fashion, along the lines of "this would be cool to do." If you're interested in building a system like this and have a point-of-sale vendor who is willing to build to any API we create, we should talk offline when you have a chance. If you send your contact info to "community (at) aerohive (dot) com" I would love to get a chance to talk.

Another take on this would be that 'paying customers' get faster access to the web

Hi Matthew,
I have emailed our Aerohive Account Manager to sort out all the details of reseller and customer(s) before getting back to you via the official channels.

Hi Matthew,

Customer asked me a very similar question today. Does ID Manager have an API so we can a) create accounts via a script and b) as part of the script email (via local SMTP server) the created keys to list of employees so they have a copy of the daily guest keys (passphrases or username/password).

Alternative, bulk create on ID Manager and have auto-notification feature to send an email to list of email addresses.

Cheers,

Yes this would be extremely helpful for us as well.  We use this in our corp locations and now using in our field locations to service 8k+ employees plus guests.

We also believe an API for ID Manager would be useful. And we have not been idle so stay tuned.

We released the APIs last year and just released some updates to them.  The documentation is being updated but you can find the documentation at:

http://www.aerohive.com/330000/docs/help/english/documentation/ID-Manager-REST-API-Configuration-Gui...

There are some errors in the docs that will be fixed...

The proper base URL is:

https://
idmanager.aerohive.com/idmanager/API/external/

Some of the calls use "IDM-device" which is incorrect.  Also, the preferred method for making calls is to use the employeeauth call to generate a token for subsequent calls. An easy way is to use one of the admin accounts for this.
