Hi All,
I've recently upgraded our AP370s to HIveOS 6.5r6 . We are running 802.1x authentication with FreeRADIUS. Whilst troubleshooting I noticed that the logs on our AP 370s are filled with info messages like this:

2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 56, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 55, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 54, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 56, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 55, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 54, attr_len:16
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 59, attr_len:24
2017-04-21 09:53:26 info    ah_auth: Can't handle attribute id 58, attr_len:4

As has been mentioned esewhere, type 55 is an Event TIme Stamp but the FreeRADIUS site suggests these are related to accounting, which we are not using.  The other attributes are listed as unused.
I don't see why FreeRADIUS would be returning these attributes, is this message an HIveOS bug?  I can't swear that these messages weren't occurring before the upgrade, but I am fairly confident they weren't there and I have other AP 370s in different sites running 6.5r4 that don't show this, neither do my AP230s.
As they are informational I don't _think_ they relate to my problem, but they are annoying in that there are about 20/second, so they are swamping my logs.

Any ideas what causes these? I guess I might be able to suppress them if they are benign, but it feels like they are a problem introduced with 6.5r6.

Regards, Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

Please ensure that all APs are running 6.5r6 and reboot them all at the same time.

Do you still see an issue after that?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the response.
All AP 370s have been upgraded to 6.5r6 (we also have AP 230s  which were already on 6.8r1) . I couldn't reboot all the 370s at the same time as they are in different time zones , but I did reboot each office.  It hasn't made any difference, except that all the AP 370s are now exhibiting the same symptom now they are all running 6.5r6 :-(

Any idea what may be causing this? I ran tcpdump on my FreeRADIUS servers, the messages seem to be unrelated to any RADIUS queries in that they are constant whether the AP is communicating with the FreeRADIUS server or not.

Hi Kevin,

After further investigation, this is a cosmetic-only, non-service affecting logging issue in HiveOS 6.5rX where newer versions of HiveOS are also in use in an environment.

I have brought it to the attention of the right people, I understand that we will seek to get this sorted for the release after HiveOS 6.5r7.

Thanks,

Nick
