AP230 SNMP via CLI

I am working thru configuring an AP230 via CLI running Hive OS 6.5r6 and it isnt part of a Hive.  As a guide I can ping the device on the LAN, can access the HTML interface, and the SNMP Server can connect via SSH.

Below are the settings I am using at present:
boot-param country-code 36
no capwap client enable

security-object MINE
security-object askitee security protocol-suite wpa2-aes-psk ascii-key 66calgaroo
ssid AAP230_SLOW
ssid AAP230_SLOW security-object MINE
interface wifi0 ssid AAP230_SLOW
ssid AAP230_FAST
ssid A2AP230_FAST security-object MINE
interface wifi1 ssid AAP230_FAST
hostname AI-AP-1
snmp contact IT_Comms
snmp trap-host V2c 192.168.0.7 community public
interface eth0 manage all
snmp location AI_Office
save config

When I try to poll the device from the SNMP server it gets 'no data is returned"  Watching the SNMP responses the AP doesnt even seem to acknowledge the SNMP request.  So what have I missed.

Try "show snmp community" - if you're using the wrong community, it will not respond.

Thanks Dianne, I originally had it configured with our standard SNMP string, and switched back to public during troubleshooting.  The community is correct.

Hi,

Why do you not use HM to manage the AP's? You might find using HM an easier way to configure what you need.

A tip for you - run the command "show cmds | inc snmp"

"show cmds" will give you a list of all CLI commands. Using the pipe to filter out for specific words can be very useful indeed.

Kind Regards,
Gary Smith

Thanks Gary. No desire/need to run HMOL or onsite Manager.  While many of my other Aerohive clients do, this site isn't able.   I am familiar with the CLI commands, hence my reaching out to see if there is a bug in the Hive OS or a workaround or a sequence that needs to be adhered to in the issuing of the CLI commands for it to work.

Typically when managed using Hivemanager, Hivemanager tells the APs what networks to expect snmp queries from by doing traffic filters:
https://community.aerohive.com/aerohive/topics/there_is_no_snmp_response_from_hiveap_121
Not sure how these equate to CLI.

I think you are missing the snmp reader version command see below

snmp trap-info over-snmpsnmp trap-host v2c 10.2.58.130 community hivecommunity
snmp location Caloosa_Middle@0572-BLDG_6_1st_floor
snmp contact Ervin_Graham
no snmp reader version any community hivecommunity
snmp reader version v2c community hivecommunity 10.2.58.130
snmp reader version v2c community hivecommunity 10.2.58.18

Hi Dennis, you were correct, as soon as I added the commands you've outlined the SNMP data started flowing.  Very grateful for your expertise.
