ap130 usage in warehouses use cases

Hi guys,

Who can share some experiences with using AP130's in warehouses ? Can they be mounted at 14m height on the ceiling within the corridors between the goods (put till the ceiling) with 80 meters between two access points to give sufficiant coverage at ground level ? We have to position the access points at the ceiling because they can not be positioned against the walls because there are also goods there :-(

Normally AP141 + omnidirectional antennas (4) are used in our warehouse deployments but we want to deploy "ac" compliant access points and AP245X look as overkill (bandwidth and price).

Thanks a lot !

This is not specifically for the AP130, but putting any AP with omni antennas higher than 9 meters above the clients can be tricky, especially in warehouse environment. Warehouses themselves are different, but if we consider a high shelf warehouse, putting access points with omni antennas high up above the shelves will lead to inefficient WiFi deployment as there will be a considerable amount of CCI between the access points as they will be able to hear each other better than they can hear the clients. You will also be throwing away a significant portion of your RF as the clients are down on the ground while the majority of your signal stays above them. If your ACSP is on, the access points might even turn down the power and even reduce the amount of signal that reaches the ground, causing ground coverage to degrade over time. Other things which you will need to worry about is the hidden node problem which you will not be able to predict nor contain in such an environment and roaming issues.

The main advantage of going for 245X in your scenario are the external antenna connectors. By deploying 245X you will get the option of being able to solve your RF and RF design related issues mentioned above by installing directional antennas, especially at the 14m height. You will not be able to do so with AP130.

Thanks for your input, Marko !

Does anybody has use cases of using AP130's in warehouses ?

I take it as a "no". We will check the AP245X.
