Accessing the "out-of-box" AH-ABCDEF SSID?

I wanted to test accessing an AP console through the SSID that is supposedly broadcast by an AP (AP120 in this case) after resetting to factory default status. According to documentation this should be an SSID  "AH-<last 6 characters of MAC>", like "AH-6BEC40".   (case-insensitive?)

After a factory reset, I do notice a "hidden network" found by my Windows 10 laptop (nothing seen by iPad mini though...).

However, I can't seem to find any reference to what passphrase it accepts.

When trying to connect, Windows 10 will first ask the SSID (I take   AH-6BEC40   ), and then the passphrase. I tried      admin     ,      aerohive   ,   AEROHIVE    ,    the complete MAC address (12 characters) ,     AH-6BEC40    ... but I always get "can't connect to this network". Oddly, when I use "admin" I do first get the message that the key is not correct, but NOT with the other attempts? (could be less-than-minimum-amount-of-characters...)

I assume it must be SOME sort of default key/passphrase since the AP is in factory default status, or does it matter that it HAS been part of a HiveManager at some point, and is it in that case the same key that was used for the "access console" SSID (SSID would in this case be    AH-6BEC40_ac     ? )

Hi nwb2,

If you've configured the access console, you should be able to see it here:

HiveManager Classic:

Guided Configuration > Additional Settings > Service Settings > Access Console:

You can uncheck 'obscure ASCII Key' to show the password that should be used'. The same option can be found in HiveManager NG under:

Network Policy > Additional Settings > Network Services > Access Console:

If you have not configured the access console manually but after a config push a network disruption leads to the access console being displayed, then the password should be identical to your administrator/console password.

If your AP has been factory reset and is broadcasting an access console by default, the password will be 'aerohive'.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
