The AP can handle 100 per radio but physics of an RF channel and airtime with a mix of different speed clients you'll likely see a real range of 100 or so per AP.  Part of your RF design should specify how many clients you want to support per AP.

Typically the answer is no more than 20-30 however it really depends on the AP, the devices connected, and the bandwidth used by each device.  For example email requires a relatively small amount of bandwidth versus streaming audio or video.  The times you really run into issues is when your bandwidth required by the clients exceeds your the bandwidth available to the AP.

Aerohive APs support standard 802.1Q VLAN trunking so as long as your devices support this the APs will be compatible.
