Does MU-MIMO implies transmitting frames to different clients spatially distant at the same time on the same channel or on different channels?

MU-MIMO is a way of transmitting different frames to different receivers at the same time on the same channel. Instead of using MIMO to transmit multiple streams to one client, you are transmitting streams to different receivers.

Here's a figure from my book that illustrates MU-MIMO. It shows a four-stream AP sending two streams to the blue client, and one stream each to red and green clients:
